The emergence of online motorcycle taxi services such as Go-Jek, Uber, and Grabike has created new job opportunities for the public. Within a year, the number of workers in the transportation sector increased directly by 500,000, reaching 5.61 million in August 2016 from 5.11 million in August 2015.
The largest increase in employment was in the community services sector, reaching 1.52 million, totaling 19.46 million in August 2016. This was followed by the trade sector, which added 1 million workers, reaching a total of 26.69 million. Almost all sectors recorded an increase in the number of workers, except for the construction sector, which experienced a decrease of 230,000 people.
Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that the number of employed people increased by 3.59 million in one year, reaching 118.41 million in August 2016 compared to 114.82 million in August 2015. The number of unemployed also decreased by 530,000, reaching 7.03 million in August 2016 from 7.56 million in August 2015.
