The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail (KCJB), a joint project between Indonesia and China, is targeted to commence operations on August 18, 2023.
The train underwent a test run by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who traveled from Halim Station to Tegalluar Station on June 22, 2023.
During the test, the KCJB reached a maximum speed of 385 kilometers per hour. The journey from Halim Station to Tegalluar Station took approximately 45 minutes.
"We just tried this train from Jakarta here at a speed of 385 kilometers per hour, briefly, but the average speed was 355 kilometers per hour," said Luhut during the KCJB test run at Tegalluar Station, Bandung Regency, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Thursday (June 22, 2023).
Given its high speed, could the KCJB be among the world's fastest trains?
Based on data from *Railway Technology*, three out of the ten fastest trains in the world are currently dominated by Chinese trains.
As of June 2023, China's Shanghai Maglev is recorded as the fastest train with a maximum speed of 460 km/h and an average speed of 251 km/h.
Next are China's CR Harmony and CR Fuxing trains, both with a top speed of 350 km/h.
Here is a complete list of the 10 fastest trains in the world based on data compiled by *Railway Technology*:
1. Shanghai Maglev (China): 460 km/h
2. CR Harmony (China): 350 km/h
3. CR Fuxing (China): 350 km/h
4. DB ICE (Germany): 350 km/h
5. SNCF TGV (France): 320 km/h
6. JR Shinkansen (Japan): 320 km/h
7. ONCF Al Boraq (Morocco): 320 km/h
8. Renfe AVE 103 (Spain): 310 km/h
9. Korail KTX-Sancheon (South Korea): 305 km/h
10. Trenitalia Frecciarossa 1000 (Italy): 300 km/h
The KCJB is not yet on this list because it has not yet started operating. However, based on its maximum speed, Indonesia's high-speed train seems capable of ranking second.
