The emergence of the Xpander in the Low Multi Purpose Vehicle (LMPV) class has captured public attention. The Avanza, which for several years consistently topped Indonesian automotive sales, is now being overtaken and placed second, below the Xpander, in the first four months of 2018.
Since its introduction mid-last year, Xpander sales have surged. Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo), sales of the Mitsubishi vehicle reached 1,096 units in September 2017. This figure was significantly lower than Avanza sales, which exceeded eight thousand units. However, in February 2018, Xpander sales reached 7,400 units, surpassing Avanza sales, which only reached 6,773 units.
Since then, the Xpander has overtaken the Avanza as the king of the local automotive market until April 2018. From January to April 2018, Xpander sales reached 29,069 units, also surpassing Avanza sales, which only reached 28,330 units. Meanwhile, the Calya was in third place with sales of 21,535 units.
