Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), Toyota was the best-selling car brand in Indonesia in January 2024.
The Japanese automaker recorded 20,988 units in wholesale sales, contributing 30.1% to the total national wholesale sales.
Daihatsu came in second, selling 14,363 units in January 2024. This volume represents 20.6% of total national wholesale sales.
Honda completed the top three, selling 8,413 units, or contributing 12.1%.
Here is a complete list of the top 10 best-selling car brands in Indonesia based on January 2024 wholesale sales:
1. Toyota: 20,988 units
2. Daihatsu: 14,363 units
3. Honda: 8,413 units
4. Mitsubishi: 6,962 units
5. Suzuki: 6,138 units
6. Hyundai: 3,003 units
7. Isuzu: 2,350 units
8. Wuling: 2,177 units
9. Mitsubishi Fuso: 2,034 units
10. Hino: 1,404 units
Gaikindo noted that total national wholesale car sales in January 2024 reached 69,619 units, a 26.1% drop compared to January 2023 (year-on-year/YoY), which recorded 94,270 units.
Gaikindo Secretary General Kukuh Kumara said that many factors contributed to the slump in four-wheeled vehicle sales. One of them is the tightening of vehicle credit.
"80% of people buy cars using credit. Once (credit regulations) are tightened, people slow down their purchases of motor vehicles," said Kukuh, as reported by DetikOto, Tuesday (20/2/2024).
