Survey: Gojek Most Frequently Used by Jabodetabek Public; How About Grab, Maxim, and InDriver?

A survey by the Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) reveals that Gojek is the most widely used online transportation application among the public. 59.13 percent of respondents reported choosing this application from the Indonesian decacorn company.

Following Gojek, the public uses Grab (32.24 percent), Maxim (6.93 percent), InDriver (1.47 percent), and others (0.23 percent).

Preferred payment methods are cash and e-money (41.69 percent), e-money only (32.53 percent), and cash only (25.69 percent). The most frequent use of online motorcycle taxis is 1-3 days per week (50.24 percent).

Meanwhile, users of online motorcycle taxi services are predominantly male (53 percent), employed as private employees (35.40 percent), and earn mostly less than Rp 3 million per month. In terms of spending, most spend between Rp 10,000 and Rp 25,000 (51.41 percent) on online motorcycle taxi bookings and less than Rp 25,000 (41.47 percent) on other transportation.

Most people stated that they use online motorcycle taxis because they are more practical (37.29 percent) and faster (32.28 percent). Furthermore, people use online motorcycle taxis from home (70.62 percent) to work (29.57 percent). The furthest travel distance is 4-8 km (41.24 percent), mainly for work/business purposes (57.74 percent).

The public considers the current fares to be reasonable (52.32 percent). Reactions to the latest service fees (fares) show that 49.76 percent will continue using the service, while 50.24 percent will switch or reduce their frequency of use.

The survey was conducted from September 13-20, 2022, using an online survey method. The sampling comprised residents of Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) who use online motorcycle taxis, with a sampling error of less than 5 percent. A total of 2,655 online motorcycle taxi user respondents and 2,016 online motorcycle taxi driver respondents participated.
