PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI served approximately 4.39 million passengers during the 22-day 2022 Eid al-Fitr transportation period, from D-10 to D+10, or April 22 to May 13, 2022.
Specifically, KAI transported 2.55 million long-distance train passengers with an occupancy rate of 95% of the total seating capacity provided. Meanwhile, local train trips recorded 1.83 million passengers.
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that this number represents 139% of the target of 3.15 million passengers.
The number also reaches 64% of the total passengers during the Eid al-Fitr transportation period before the pandemic, which was 6.84 million passengers in 2019.
“The high number of passengers during the 2022 Eid al-Fitr transportation period is an extraordinary achievement. This figure is also approaching the passenger volume in 2019, so we are optimistic about optimizing services in 2022,” said Didiek in a written statement on Saturday (May 14, 2022).
During Eid al-Fitr 2022, KAI operated a total of 4,714 long-distance trains, or an average of 214 trains per day, with 99% punctuality.
At the peak of the homecoming flow on D-2 of Eid al-Fitr or Saturday (April 30, 2022), KAI transported 208,092 passengers. Meanwhile, the peak of the return flow occurred on D+1 of Eid al-Fitr or Wednesday (May 4, 2022) with 283,736 passengers.
Popular routes included Jakarta-Yogyakarta round trip (PP), Jakarta-Purwokerto PP, Jakarta-Semarang PP, Jakarta-Bandung PP, Jakarta-Surabaya PP, Bandung-Yogyakarta PP, and others.
"We express our appreciation to KAI passengers for their trust in using trains as their preferred mode of transportation for this year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming/return trips, ensuring safe, secure, comfortable, and healthy travel," concluded Didiek.
"We also extend our gratitude to the government through the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of SOEs, Regional Governments, TNI, Polri, the train enthusiast community, and all other parties who cannot be mentioned individually, for their support in making the 2022 Eid al-Fitr transportation successful," he continued.
