The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) reports that national car sales from manufacturers to dealers (wholesale) in June 2022 reached 79,170 units.
This figure surged 60.09% compared to the previous month, which saw only 49,450 units sold. This surge was triggered by low sales in May 2022 due to the long Eid al-Fitr holiday. Compared to June 2021, wholesale car sales also increased by 8.87% (year-on-year).
National automotive sales plummeted in April-June 2020 with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, as shown in the graph. However, starting in 2022, a recovery has been observed, although sales remain below pre-pandemic levels.
Cumulatively, domestic car sales reached 475,320 units throughout the first half of 2022. This achievement grew by 20.8% compared to the first half of 2021.
By brand, Toyota still leads the national automotive market share at 31.4%, followed by Daihatsu with a 19% market share, Honda with 13.2%, and Mitsubishi Motors with 10.8%.
