World's Largest Spice Suppliers: Where Does Indonesia Rank?

Indonesia was one of the world's largest suppliers of spices in 2020, ranking ninth. Spice exports from Indonesia reached US$1.02 billion, or approximately Rp14.59 trillion (using an exchange rate of US$1 = Rp14,235).

This figure represents a 24.27% year-on-year (yoy) increase compared to the same period the previous year, which amounted to US$825.55 million. One of Indonesia's largest spice exports was soy sauce, with export value reaching US$212.85 million, or about 20.74% of the total value of Indonesian spice exports in 2020.

Meanwhile, China was the world's largest spice exporter in 2020, with exports valued at US$3.43 billion.

India and the United States followed, with spice export values of US$2.57 billion and US$1.80 billion respectively in 2020. The Netherlands, Italy, and Germany recorded spice export values of US$1.48 billion, US$1.33 billion, and US$1.30 billion respectively.

Guatemala and Vietnam's spice export values were US$1.12 billion and US$1.08 billion respectively. Thailand's spice exports totaled US$930.73 million.

Global spice exports reached US$26.85 billion in 2020, a 10.51% yoy increase.
