According to Gallup's *Global Emotions Report*, Indonesia had the highest positive emotions score globally in 2022.

Positive emotions are feelings associated with pleasure or joy. Gallup measured these emotions through a survey of 147,000 respondents aged 15 and above across 142 countries, asking the following five questions:

* Did you get enough rest?
* Were you treated with respect?
* Did you smile or laugh a lot?
* Did you learn or do something interesting?
* Did you often feel comfortable or enjoy something?

"Yes" answers to these questions were then formulated into an index score on a scale of 0-100. A score of 0 indicates a very low level of positive emotions, and 100 a very high level.

Indonesia scored 85, on par with the Philippines, Vietnam, Mexico, and Paraguay. This was the highest score among the surveyed countries.

The 11 countries with the highest positive emotion index globally are generally located in Southeast Asia and Latin America, as shown in the chart above.

"This index measures intangible aspects of life, namely feelings and emotions, which cannot be seen through traditional economic indicators such as gross domestic product," said the Gallup team in its report.

"This index score is strongly correlated with people's perceptions of their standard of living, personal freedom, and social networks," it continued.
