Indonesia's Largest Imported Goods in 2021: What Are They?

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's non-oil and gas imports reached US$170.67 billion during the January-December 2021 period. This figure represents a 34.59% increase compared to the previous year.

Mechanical machinery/equipment and parts (Harmonized System/HS 84) constituted the largest import category, reaching US$25.85 billion in 2021. This value grew by 18.52% compared to the previous year, accounting for 15.14% of the total national non-oil and gas imports.

The next largest import categories were iron and steel (HS 72) at US$11.96 billion, followed by pharmaceutical products (HS 30) at US$4.36 billion, cereals/grains (HS 10) at US$4.07 billion, and mineral fuels (HS 27) at US$3.31 billion.

Other significant import categories included fertilizers (HS 31) at US$2.2 billion, metal ores, slag, and ash (HS 26) at US$1.76 billion, furniture, lighting, and lighting equipment (HS 94) at US$1.35 billion, ships, boats, and floating structures (HS 89) at US$803.4 million, and aircraft and parts (HS 88) at US$522.7 million.

The combined imports of these ten categories totaled US$56.18 billion, a 44.53% increase compared to the previous year's US$38.87 billion. This represents 32.92% of the total value of non-oil and gas imports last year.
