Jakarta's Imports Reached US$5.61 Billion in August 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Jakarta's imports reached US$5.61 billion in August 2021, a 7.2% increase compared to the previous month's US$5.23 billion. Compared to the same period last year, which was US$3.61 billion, Jakarta's imports in August 2021 increased by 55.5%.

In detail, non-oil and gas imports to Jakarta reached US$5.57 billion in August 2021, growing 8% from the previous month's US$5.16 billion. Meanwhile, oil and gas imports to Jakarta fell 44.7% from US$81.5 million in July 2021 to US$45.1 million in August 2021.

The decline in the oil and gas sector was due to the slump in global oil prices in August 2021. However, the strong performance of non-oil and gas imports managed to drive overall import growth.

By country, China was the largest importer to Jakarta in August 2021 with a value of US$1.92 billion. China's contribution to Jakarta's imports reached 34.2%.

China was followed by Japan with imports valued at US$704.5 million or 14.4%. After that was Thailand with imports valued at US$498.8 million or 8.9%.

Machinery/mechanical appliances were the largest import to Jakarta in August 2021, at US$996.4 million or 17.7%. This was followed by imports of electrical machinery/equipment and vehicles and parts, valued at US$587.3 million (10.5%) and US$481.6 million (8.6%) respectively.
