According to a report by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's non-oil and gas imports in the first half of 2024 reached US$91.63 billion.

This figure is down 0.49% compared to the first half of last year (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc).

However, this decrease was not uniform. Several import partner countries actually saw increased exports to Indonesia, including China.

In the first half of 2024, imports from China increased by 8.21% (ctc) to US$32.45 billion.

Imports from Australia rose by 8.05% (ctc), and from Singapore by 19.08% (ctc).

Meanwhile, imports from other major partner countries decreased, as detailed in the graph.

The Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee (KPPI) is currently investigating a surge in imported goods from four countries: China, Japan, the United States, and South Korea.

This investigation relates to Indonesia's efforts to protect itself from dumping practices, i.e., the act of traders selling imported goods at low prices to dominate the market in a particular country.

"This investigation is being conducted by the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee and the KPPI," said KPPI Chairwoman Franciska Simanjuntak, as reported by CNN Indonesia on Monday (July 15, 2024).

"At the KPPI, we are investigating four products: yarn, artificial filament yarn, woven fabrics, and woven fabrics from filament materials. This investigation is ongoing and is expected to be completed in September-October this year," she added.
