According to Margo Yuwono, the surplus in December 2022 mainly came from non-oil and gas commodity transactions, valued at US$5.61 billion. However, this was reduced by a deficit in the oil and gas sector of US$1.72 billion.

The oil and gas sector also experienced a deficit of US$24.39 billion in the January-December 2022 period, but a surplus still occurred in the non-oil and gas sector amounting to US$78.85 billion. Thus, cumulatively, Indonesia's trade balance throughout 2022 experienced a surplus of US$54.46 billion.
