The Ministry of Industry recorded 1,228 new large and medium-sized industrial units by the third quarter of 2016. For the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics industry, 327 new units grew with an investment value of Rp 72.86 trillion and absorbed 226,000 workers.
Meanwhile, the Agro-industry group grew by 415 units with an investment value of Rp 65.93 trillion and absorbed 74,000 workers. A total of 489 units in the Chemical, Textile, and Miscellaneous industries grew with an investment value of Rp 89.20 trillion and absorbed 262,000 workers.
Meanwhile, 165,983 new small-scale industrial units were recorded. According to the Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartanto, this number increased by 4.5 percent compared to 2015. Airlangga stated that the government is committed to encouraging the growth of small industries, including by providing capital assistance through the People's Business Credit (KUR).
