The joint attack by the United States (US) and Israel on Iran last weekend led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main routes for international trade.

The closure was announced by Brigadier General of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, Ibrahim Jabari, on Saturday (28/2/2026) local time.

As an illustration, Ateng presented the value of Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports and imports with three countries around the Strait of Hormuz, namely Iran, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during 2025.

Of the three countries, Indonesia traded the most with the UAE, with non-oil exports worth US$4 billion and imports worth US$1.4 billion during 2025.
