Indonesia's Trade Balance Records Surplus Again in June 2025

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of US$4.10 billion in June 2025.

This surplus decreased by 4.60% month-to-month (mtm), but surged by 62.90% year-on-year (yoy).

"Indonesia's trade balance has recorded a surplus for 62 consecutive months, since May 2020," said Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics at BPS, in a press release on Friday (1/8/2025).

In June 2025, Indonesia's trade balance was supported by the non-oil and gas sector, which recorded a surplus of US$5.21 billion. Contributing commodities included mineral fuels (HS 27); animal or vegetable fats and oils (HS 15); and iron and steel (HS 72).

However, this non-oil and gas surplus was reduced by an oil and gas trade deficit of US$1.11 billion. This deficit was contributed by oil products and crude oil commodities.

Cumulatively, from January to June 2025, the oil and gas sector experienced a deficit of US$8.83 billion, while the non-oil and gas sector recorded a surplus of US$28.31 billion. Thus, by mid-year, Indonesia's trade balance showed a surplus of US$19.48 billion.

Indonesia's trade surplus from January to June 2025 originated mostly from transactions with the United States, amounting to US$8.57 billion. India contributed a surplus of US$6.59 billion, and the Philippines US$4.40 billion.

On the other hand, the largest trade deficit stemmed from transactions with China, valued at US$9.73 billion. This was followed by Singapore, contributing a deficit of US$3.09 million, and Australia with US$2.66 million.
