China, Indonesia's Main Supplier of Imported Iron and Steel in 2024

According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia imported 14 million tons of iron and steel in 2024. This volume grew by 1.35% compared to 2023 (year-on-year/yoy).

Although import volume increased, the value of iron and steel imports in 2024 decreased by 11.85% (yoy) to US$10.66 billion.

In 2024, China was the main supplier of iron and steel to Indonesia, with a volume of 5.12 million tons, equivalent to 36% of total national imports.

China has consistently been the largest supplier of imported iron and steel to Indonesia since 2017.

The following is a list of the top 10 countries of origin for Indonesia's largest iron and steel imports in 2024:

1. China: 5.12 million tons
2. Japan: 2.29 million tons
3. South Korea: 884.1 thousand tons
4. Vietnam: 640.9 thousand tons
5. Singapore: 321.1 thousand tons
6. India: 280.8 thousand tons
7. Thailand: 79.1 thousand tons
8. United States: 14.7 thousand tons
9. Germany: 4.5 thousand tons
10. Italy: 2.6 thousand tons

In addition to the 10 countries above, Indonesia also purchased iron and steel from other countries with a combined volume of 4.36 million tons.
