Indonesia Enters the List of Top Global Cotton Importers for 2024/2025

Based on data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global cotton imports reached 42.55 million bales in the 2024/2025 trading season. This represents a 3.38% decrease year-on-year (YoY) from the 44.05 million bales imported in the 2023/2024 period.

During this period, Bangladesh was the world's largest cotton importer, reaching 8.2 million bales, or 19% of total global exports. The country has also been a major global cotton importer for the past three trading seasons (since 2021/2022).

Indonesia ranked seventh globally, with cotton imports totaling 1.85 million bales during 2024/2025.

The following is a list of countries with the highest global cotton import volumes during the 2024/2025 trading period:

1. Bangladesh: 8.2 million bales

2. Vietnam: 7.8 million bales

3. Pakistan: 5.8 million bales

4. China: 5.5 million bales

5. Turkey: 4.3 million bales

6. India: 2.8 million bales

7. Indonesia: 1.85 million bales

8. Egypt: 1 million bales

9. Malaysia: 725,000 bales

10. Mexico: 650,000 bales

11. Other countries: 3.93 million bales.
