China, the World's Largest Cotton Producer in 2024/2025

Based on data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global cotton production volume reached 119.92 million bales in the 2024/2025 harvest period. This represents a 6.16% increase year-on-year (YoY) from the 2023/2024 period, which saw production of 112.96 million bales.

During this period, China was the world's largest cotton producer, reaching 32 million bales, or 27% of total global production. China has consistently been the largest cotton producer for the past four periods, since 2021/2022.

The following is a list of countries with the highest global cotton production volumes in the 2024/2025 period:

1. China: 32 million bales

2. India: 24 million bales

3. Brazil: 17 million bales

4. United States: 14.41 million bales

5. Australia: 5.6 million bales

6. Pakistan: 5 million bales

7. Turkey: 3.95 million bales

8. Other countries: 17.96 million bales

Meanwhile, the USDA did not record cotton production from Indonesia. This is because Indonesia has not been able to produce cotton on a large scale, partly due to less-than-ideal climatic conditions.

The USDA's 2024/2025 harvest season data globally refers to a 12-month period starting at the beginning of the harvest, namely August 2024-July 2025.
