The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) surveyed the condition of Indonesia's traditional markets in 2024.

The results show that the majority, or 71.79%, of traditional markets had toilets in 2024. Furthermore, 62.25% had parking areas.

Other findings include 59.06% of markets having garbage disposal areas, and 59.05% having drainage systems.

Additionally, 47.41% had signage; 35.32% had management offices; 33.14% had places of worship; 29.68% had loading and unloading areas; and 22.39% had security posts.

However, only 4.92% of markets had health clinics; 3.94% had metrology posts; and 3.59% had ATMs.

BPS also reported that the number of traditional markets in Indonesia reached 17,443 units in 2024.

This figure is a reduction from the initial estimate of 19,330 units listed in the prelist updating of the market directory (UDP-24).

The breakdown shows that 16,842 markets were recorded as still operating.

BPS calculated that 15,217 of these were traditional markets with management. The remaining 1,625 units were markets without management.

In addition, there were 601 traditional markets outside the prelist.
