According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) report, *Indonesia: Retail Foods*, the number of Indomaret and Alfamart stores has continued to grow over the past five years.
In 2023, Indomaret had approximately 22,500 stores, an increase of 5,000 stores or 29% compared to 2019.
Alfamart, in 2023, had approximately 19,000 stores, an increase of 5,300 stores or 38% compared to 2019.
From 2019 to 2023, Indomaret added an average of approximately 1,250 stores per year, while Alfamart added approximately 1,300 stores per year.
The USDA also noted that, as of 2023, Indomaret and Alfamart still dominate the modern retail business of food, beverages, and daily necessities in Indonesia.
"Approximately 92 percent of the total sales value of minimarkets in Indonesia comes from these two companies," the USDA team stated in its report.
"Minimarkets are expected to remain the fastest-growing retail segment, with an average addition of 1,000 new stores each year," it continued.
