Sea transport remains the primary mode for importing goods in Indonesia. This is according to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) titled "Imports by Mode of Transport 2020-2021".

"Approximately 88.05% of Indonesian imports enter through sea transport," the BPS report states.

Based on value, Indonesian goods imported via sea transport reached US$172.73 billion. This figure represents a 39.97% increase compared to the previous year's US$123.4 billion.

Air transport contributed 11.91% or US$23.37 billion to the import of goods. This figure increased by 29.57% compared to the previous year's US$18.03 billion.

Meanwhile, the value of import trade transactions via land, postal, and pipeline/cable transport is relatively small. The details are: land transport US$700,000; postal US$1.4 million; and pipeline/cable US$77.5 million.
