January-October 2016: Consumption Goods Imports Grew by 14 Percent

From January to October 2016, the value of imported consumer goods grew by 13.75 percent to US$10 billion compared to the same period the previous year. This indicates that the consumption sector remains a pillar of domestic economic growth.

Meanwhile, the value of imported raw materials from January to October 2016 decreased by 8.6 percent to US$82.1 billion compared to the same period the previous year. Similarly, imports of capital goods from January to October 2016 also contracted by 11.8 percent to US$18.04 billion compared to the same period the previous year. This indicates that the domestic economy remains sluggish, resulting in a decrease in the demand for raw materials and capital goods.

Total Indonesian imports from January to October 2016 reached US$110.17 billion, down 7.5 percent from the same period the previous year. Similarly, total export value from January to October 2016 also fell by 8.04 percent to US$117.09 billion compared to the same period the previous year.
