Universitas Indonesia (UI) has been named the most sustainable campus in Asia according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023. Globally, UI ranks 24th.
The ranking is based on several criteria, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, and education and research.
With these criteria, UI achieved a score of 8,925 points. This is a 125-point increase from 2022, when it scored 8,800 points.
"We hope UI can make a real contribution in terms of energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and environmentally friendly transportation to the community to create a healthy and sustainable environment," said Amelita Lusia, Head of the UI Public Relations and Information Disclosure Bureau, as reported by *Katadata*, Thursday (7/12/2023).
With this achievement, UI surpassed Universiti Putra Malaysia, which ranked second in Asia with a score of 8,900 points.
Besides UI, several Indonesian campuses are included in this list, such as Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University, IPB University, Semarang State University, and Sebelas Maret University.

2. Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia): 8,900 points
3. Universitas Diponegoro (Indonesia): 8,875 points
4. National Pingtung University of Science & Technology (Taipei): 8,875 points
5. Universitas Gadah Mada (Indonesia): 8,850 points
6. Weifang Institute of Technology (China): 8,825 points
7. IPB University (Indonesia): 8,825 points
8. Universitas Negeri Semarang (Indonesia): 8,775 points
9. Kasetsart University (Thailand): 8,775 points
10. Universitas Sebelas Maret (Indonesia): 8,650 points
