Coal Export Trend Decreases in the Last Two Years

Coal exports have decreased over the past two years. The sharpest decline in coal exports occurred during the pandemic.

Coal exports fell by 26.97% to 331.94 million tons in 2020. Then, coal exports further decreased by 8.15% to 304.9 million tons in 2021.

However, coal exports increased in 2018. Recorded exports reached 356.39 million tons in 2018, a 24.2% increase from the previous year. This figure then increased again by 27.53% to 454.5 million tons in 2019. Coal exports in 2019 were the highest since 2015.

Domestic coal sales also decreased. Domestic coal sales amounted to 212.14 million tons in 2021, a 3.44% decrease from the previous year.

Despite the decline in sales, coal production increased. Coal production reached 606.2 million tons, a 7.6% increase from the previous year.
