The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the value of imports of knitted clothing and accessories (HS61) showed an increasing trend in the run-up to Eid al-Fitr, or the January-March 2024 period.

BPS Deputy for Production Statistics, M. Habibullah, explained that the increase in imports was to anticipate the rise in demand for clothing ahead of Eid.

“The value of imports of this commodity shows an increasing trend in the months leading up to Eid al-Fitr. This pattern is visible both this year and last year,” said Habibullah in an online press conference on Wednesday (June 19, 2024).

Recorded imports of knitted clothing and accessories (HS61) into Indonesia amounted to US$12.26 million in January 2024. This increased to US$20.87 million in February 2024.

The value rose again to US$23.98 million in March 2024. However, the value of imports of this commodity began to fall during Eid, reaching US$22.86 million in April 2024.

Cumulatively, from January to March 2024, imports of knitted clothing and accessories into Indonesia were mostly supplied by China, accounting for 38.76%.

Imports from Vietnam accounted for 13.99%, Bangladesh 10.36%, and Turkey 5.02%. The combined share of imports from other countries amounted to 31.86%.
