According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 1.2 billion domestic tourist trips (wisnus) recorded throughout 2025.

Wisnus are Indonesian residents who travel within the country for less than 12 months, and these trips are made outside of their daily routines, not for school or work.

The number of wisnus trips in 2025 surged by 17.55% compared to the previous year (year-on-year/yoy), setting a new record since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020.

"It's even much higher compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic, when there were only 722 million trips," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono in a press release on Monday (2/2/2026).

In 2025, the most wisnus trips originated from West Java, with a total of 218.8 million trips. It was followed by East Java with 203.9 million trips and Central Java with 141.24 million trips.
