1.2 Billion Domestic Tourist Trips in Indonesia in 2025, Most from Java

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 1.2 billion domestic tourist trips (wisnus) in Indonesia in 2025.

Wisnus are Indonesian residents who travel within the country for less than 12 months, and these trips are outside of their daily routines, not for school or work.

The number of wisnus trips in 2025 has increased by 17.55% compared to 2024.

"The number of wisnus trips in 2025 is the highest in the last 7 years. In fact, it is much higher than before the Covid-19 pandemic, which was only 722.15 million trips," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono in a press release on Monday (2/2/2026).

In 2025, the most wisnus trips originate from Java Island, particularly West Java, East Java, and Central Java provinces.

Here is the list of the 10 provinces with the most wisnus trips in 2025:

1. West Java: 218.8 million trips
2. East Java: 203.9 million trips
3. Central Java: 141.24 million trips
4. DKI Jakarta: 101.65 million trips
5. Banten: 76.18 million trips
6. North Sumatra: 56.38 million trips
7. South Sulawesi: 42.27 million trips
8. DI Yogyakarta: 30.72 million trips
9. Lampung: 28.60 million trips
10. Bali: 27.28 million trips

In 2025, East Java became the main destination for domestic tourists with 217.19 million visits.

The next most popular destinations are West Java with 211.76 million visits, Central Java with 146.25 million visits, and Jakarta with 99.39 million visits.
