Reopening to Foreign Nationals, Bali Receives 2 Foreign Tourist Visits in October 2021

Bali's tourism sector began to revive after reopening to foreign tourists in July 2021. A total of two foreign tourists (wisman) visited Bali in October 2021, marking the first such visits since July 2021.

The Indonesian government closed Bali to foreigners from July to September 2021 to implement Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) on Java and Bali islands. This measure aimed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The two foreign tourist visits to Bali in October 2021 represent a drastic 96.83% decrease compared to the same period last year. In October 2020, there were 63 foreign tourist visits to Bali.

Despite this, a recovery in the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in Bali is evident. The occupancy rate in October 2021 was recorded at 17.73%, an increase of 8.27 percentage points from September 2021 (9.46%). Compared to October 2020, this represents an 8.2-percentage-point increase from 9.53%.

The average length of stay for both foreign and domestic guests at star-rated hotels in Bali was 1.92 days in October 2021. This is a 0.09-point increase from September 2021 (1.83 days). Compared to October 2020 (2.19 days), it shows a decrease of 0.27 points.
