Having children turns out to be a low priority for Indonesia's Gen Z. This is in line with the results of research released by the IDN Research Institute together with Populix, titled *Indonesia Gen Z Report 2022*.

The research shows that only 64% of the total Gen Z respondents chose having children as a priority. This figure is significantly lower compared to their top priority.

Gen Z's top priority is making their parents happy, chosen by 83% of respondents. The research team explained that the pandemic is one of the reasons why Gen Z in Indonesia prioritize their parents or family.

"Gen Z spent more time with their parents. Therefore, it can increase their appreciation for family relationships," wrote the IDN Research Institute in its report.

Then, Gen Z also prioritizes saving for the future with a proportion of 81%, followed by developing themselves at 77%.

Looking at the chart above, the second to sixth priorities are more focused on self-development and work. Getting married and having children are outside the top six priorities.

IDN Research Institute defines Gen Z as those aged 15-24 in 2022.

This survey involved 1,000 respondents from 12 cities spread across various regions in Indonesia. The sample was selected using a random sampling method.

Data was collected from January 27 to March 27, 2022, using face-to-face interviews. This survey has a margin of error of less than 5%.
