The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 3.54 million Indonesian nationals traveling abroad throughout 2022.
BPS defines "Indonesian nationals" as Indonesian residents traveling abroad for no more than one year, for purposes of leisure, business, or other reasons, but not for employment by a person/company in the visited country.
Of all Indonesian nationals traveling abroad in 2022, the majority, or 19.21%, visited Saudi Arabia.
According to BPS, Saudi Arabia is indeed the main destination for Indonesian nationals, especially for religious purposes.
In 2022, the average Indonesian visiting Saudi Arabia spent approximately 14 days there.
Other countries frequently visited by Indonesian nationals include Malaysia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Turkey, Japan, Timor-Leste, the United States, and Vietnam, with proportions as shown in the graph.
When grouped by region, throughout 2022, approximately 47.5% of Indonesian nationals visited neighboring countries in Southeast Asia.
BPS assesses that Southeast Asian countries are favorite destinations for Indonesian tourists due to their proximity and low travel costs.
