The Most Popular Android OS Versions in the World 2023: Android 13 Takes the Crown!

Based on data from Android Studio, Android development tools by GizChina, shows that Android 13 is the most widely used operating system (OS) globally as of October 1, 2023.

The Tiramisu-coded Android OS achieved a global market share of 22.4%. Android 13 is the newest OS on this list, launched in 2022.

Android 11 (Red Velvet Cake) follows in second place. Released in 2020, this OS holds a 21.6% market share as of October 1, 2023.

"What's interesting is that Android 12, the successor to Android 11, failed to reach second place," wrote GizChina in its report on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Android 10 then occupies third place with a market share of 16.1%. Following this is Android 12 with 15.8% global installations.

Note that this list does not include Android 14. This newest version of the Android OS was only launched on October 4, 2023, and has not yet been widely adopted by Android devices on the market.

The following is a list of the top 10 most installed Android OS versions on active smartphone devices worldwide as of October 1, 2023:

1. Android 13 (Tiramisu): 22.4%
2. Android 11 (Red Velvet Cake): 21.6%
3. Android 10 (Q): 16.1%
4. Android 12 (Snow Cone): 15.8%
5. Android 9 (Pie): 10.5%
6. Android 8 (Oreo): 7.3%
7. Android 7 (Nougat): 2.6%
8. Android 6 (Marshmallow): 1.9%
9. Android 5 (Lollipop): 1.4%
