National holidays are official holidays designated by the government. Each country has a different number of national holidays.
So, which countries have the most public holidays in the world?
According to World Atlas data, Nepal has the most national holidays in the world, totaling 34 days in 2022. These holidays are predominantly religious celebrations such as Gaura Parva, Holo, and Buddha Jayanti.
Second is Iran, with 26 national holidays last year. In addition to national celebrations, Iranian holidays are also dominated by various religious observances.
"Iran uses the Gregorian calendar for international events and Christian holidays, while the Lunar Hijri calendar is specifically for Islamic holidays," wrote World Atlas in its report.
Third place is Sri Lanka, with 24 national holidays a year. Sri Lanka also provides its workers with paid leave for festival days, increasing its total holidays to 40 days a year.
"As one of the most culturally vibrant nations, Sri Lanka offers a year full of festivals for travelers to explore," stated World Atlas.

Indonesia is not in the top 10, as it only had 16 national holidays in 2022. The number of national holidays in Indonesia remained the same in 2023.
For 2024, Indonesia's national holidays will increase by one day, Easter, bringing the total to 17 days.
"For the year 2024, the government has decided on a total of 27 national holidays and joint leave days, with 17 national holidays and 10 joint leave days," said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy in a press release on Tuesday (12/9/2023).
