During the pandemic, internet connection became a primary need for people worldwide to conduct their daily online activities. Each country sets different prices for mobile data quotas to allow its citizens to connect to the internet.

The internet service comparison website, Cable, collected and analyzed data from 6,148 mobile data packages in 221 countries and territories. Based on this analysis, Cable ranked countries by the most and least expensive 1 GB mobile data quota prices.

Here are the 10 countries with the most expensive mobile data quotas in the world:

1. Equatorial Guinea – US$ 49.67 (approximately Rp 709,160, exchange rate Rp 14,277.45)
2. Falkland Islands – US$ 44.56 (approximately Rp 636,203)
3. Saint Helena – US$ 39.87 (approximately Rp 569,242)
4. São Tomé and Príncipe – US$ 30.97 (approximately Rp 442,173)
5. Malawi – US$ 25.46 (approximately Rp 363,504)
6. Chad – US$ 23.33 (approximately Rp 333,093)
7. Namibia – US$ 22.37 (approximately Rp 319,387)
8. Turkmenistan – US$ 21.41 (approximately Rp 305,680)
9. Tokelau – US$ 20.48 (approximately Rp 292,402)
10. Bermuda – US$ 19.80 (approximately Rp 282,694)

Meanwhile, Indonesia ranks 12th as a country with the cheapest 1 GB mobile data quota in the world, with an average price of only US$ 0.42 or approximately Rp 6,000.

The varying prices of mobile data quotas among countries are influenced by several factors, such as supporting telecommunications infrastructure. Countries with expensive mobile data quotas have inadequate cellular and fixed broadband infrastructure.
