Is Indonesia's Internet Price Really Expensive?

Based on research released by Numbeo, the average monthly internet rate in Indonesia for 10 Mbps speed reaches Rp 349,000. Indonesia ranks 81st as the country with the highest internet rates in the world. However, this rate is still relatively cheap in Southeast Asia and even cheaper than in the United States. Indonesia is the third cheapest in Southeast Asia after Vietnam (Rp 141,000) and Thailand (Rp 239,000) per month.

Last week, Indonesian cyberspace was abuzz over the hacking of Telkomsel's official website. On the site, the hackers displayed a protest about the high price of Telkomsel's data packages. Against a black background, the description contained curses and abusive language. The hackers, whose identity remains unknown, demanded that Telkomsel lower its internet package prices, which they deemed expensive.
