Korean dramas, or "drakor" as they are popularly known, have become a global phenomenon. Indonesia is no exception, with viewers from all walks of life hooked on these shows. But what makes Indonesian audiences so enamored with South Korean dramas?
A JakPat survey reveals that the most popular reason Indonesians enjoy South Korean dramas (drakor) is their compelling storylines, cited by 88% of respondents.
Furthermore, 74% of respondents appreciate the actors' acting skills, 69% enjoy the actors' appearances, and 57% are drawn to the beautiful filming locations.
A suitable number of episodes was also a factor for 56% of respondents. Meanwhile, 55% cited the excellent music or soundtracks, and another 54% mentioned the high-quality cinematography.
Other reasons included the appealing fashion inspiration (50%), the relatability of the dramas to daily life (50%), and the fascinating Korean culture (48%).
This survey involved 2,474 respondents from across Indonesia, narrowed down to 1,025 respondents who had watched Korean dramas in the past six months. Data collection took place from June 24 to July 4, 2022.
