Top 10 Best-Selling Smartphones Worldwide in the First Half of 2023: Flagship Models Dominate

According to a report by London-based research firm Omdia, global smartphone shipments in the first half of 2023 were dominated by flagship models from Apple and Samsung.

In its report titled *Smartphone Model Market Tracker-2Q23*, Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, led smartphone shipments during this period, with a total of 26.5 million units shipped.

From the same series, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 followed in the next ranks, each having recorded shipments of 21 million units and 16.5 million units, respectively.

Its predecessor, the iPhone 13, ranked fourth with lower shipment volume, namely 16.5 million units.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 11, as Apple's entry-level phone, recorded 15.5 million shipments in the first half of 2023.

Samsung was the only Android-based smartphone to make this list. Samsung's position was led by the Galaxy A14 in fifth place with shipments of 12.4 million units.

This was followed by Samsung's most expensive model, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, with total shipments of 9.6 million units. The rest were mid-range smartphones, as shown in the attached graph.

According to Omdia Senior Research Manager Jusy Hong, the weakening smartphone market at the low-to-mid level will continue until the second half of this year.

She also predicts that the premium smartphone market will grow further with the upcoming launch of the iPhone 15 series.

"Therefore, shipments of Android-based smartphone OEMs, which have a high proportion of mid-to-low-priced smartphones, will certainly experience negative growth this year," Jusy said in her official statement on Monday (August 28, 2023).
