Indonesia boasts a wide array of tourist destinations and regions accessible to international tourists. Despite the many options, Bali remains the top destination for foreign visitors to Indonesia.
Data compiled by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) through the *Passenger Exit Survey 2022* shows that Bali accounted for 46.72% of all international tourist visits.
"Of these tourists, the majority were from Europe and Oceania, accounting for 32.01% and 24.40% respectively, of all tourists visiting Bali," wrote the BPS in its report titled *Statistics of Foreign Tourist Expenditures 2022*.

This figure is the highest compared to other destinations. DKI Jakarta follows in second place at 13.03%, despite its considerable distance from Bali.
The BPS states that the high number of visits to DKI Jakarta is due to its status as the nation's capital and business center, which holds a unique appeal for international tourists.
The third most popular destination is the Riau Islands, with a percentage of 11.81%. Outside of the Riau Islands, the proportion is below 4%, as shown in the graph.
The BPS reports that a total of 809,000 international tourist visits to Indonesia were recorded in March 2023. In terms of occupation, foreign tourists were predominantly professionals, managers, employees, and students.
Their purposes of visit included leisure, business, and other personal reasons.
