Startup Layoff Wave: 7 Indonesian Tech Companies That Conducted Layoffs in 2022

The wave of mass layoffs at startups and large global companies continued in 2022. This included Indonesia, where several large companies and technology startups also cut their workforce this year.

Last week, GoTo confirmed it would cut 1,300 employees, or 12% of its total workforce. GoTo spokesperson Audrey Petriny said the company had to make difficult decisions amid slowing macroeconomic conditions.

Ruangguru took a similar step. The company confirmed it had laid off hundreds of employees. The edutech startup said it was affected by the declining global economy.

"Hundreds of Ruangguru employees were affected by these layoffs," said the Ruangguru Corporate Communication team, as reported by Katadata.co.id on Friday, November 18.

Shopee also announced its decision to lay off employees in Indonesia in mid-September (September 19th), although the number was not specified.

3. Binar Academy: 20%
4. Xendit: 5% (Indonesia and the Philippines)
5. Zenius: 20% or 200 employees
6. LinkAja: 33% or 200 employees
7. SiCepat: 0.60% or 366 employees
