The trend of using generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) is increasing globally, with the primary increase observed among older age groups.

Gen AI is an artificial intelligence technology that can create content such as text, images, videos, audio, or software code based on user requests.

According to Similarweb data, in September 2023, the proportion of global Gen AI users aged 55 and above was only 9%. Then, by September 2025, this proportion rose to 14% as shown in the chart.

Similar increases occurred in the 35-44 and 45-54 age groups.

Meanwhile, the proportion of Gen AI users from younger demographics, namely 18-24 and 25-34 years old, actually decreased, though they still dominate globally.
