According to research firm Counterpoint, global foldable smartphone shipments grew by 45% in Q2 2025 (year-on-year/YoY).

"This surge marks a significant recovery, driven by a strong Chinese market and a growing US market," Counterpoint wrote in its report on Wednesday (September 3, 2025).

In Q2 2025, Huawei led the global foldable smartphone market with a 45% shipment share. This was driven by sales of the Mate X6, which accounted for more than one-third of Huawei's sales during this period.

Motorola ranked second with a 28% shipment share, pushing Samsung to third place with a 9% share.

However, Counterpoint Senior Analyst Jane Park noted that Samsung is expected to strengthen in the third quarter of this year thanks to the launch of the Galaxy Fold 7 series, which is claimed to be better than its predecessor.

"The ultra-premium foldable form factor is back in vogue, with sales more than doubling compared to the Galaxy Fold 6 in the same period last year," Park said in her report.

Foldable smartphones from other brands accounted for an 18% shipment share in Q2 2025.

"We expect annual growth to return to double digits in the medium term, especially with the expected launch of Apple's foldable device next year," Park said.
