According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2024, 68.65% of the Indonesian population aged 5 and above owned a mobile phone or cellphone.

The provinces with the lowest percentage of mobile phone ownership were Papua Pegunungan at only 15.76%, followed by Central Papua at 33.70% and South Papua at 50.08%.
