According to a BBC Media Action survey conducted at the end of 2024, social media usage is very high among Indonesians under 40, especially those living in urban areas.

“TikTok is now the most frequently visited social media platform in Indonesia, followed by YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram,” stated the BBC in its Indonesia Information Environment report (August 2025).

The BBC conducted this survey through face-to-face interviews with 5,036 respondents aged 15 and over in October-November 2024, followed by qualitative research in November-December 2024.
