Based on data from market research firm TrendForce, global smartphone production volume reached 334.5 million units in Q4 2024, a 9.2% increase quarter-to-quarter (QtQ).

"This increase was driven by Apple's peak production season and consumer subsidies from the local government in China," TrendForce wrote in its report on Tuesday (March 11, 2025).

In Q4 2024, Apple was the leading smartphone producer with a volume of 80.1 million units, a surge of 57.4% (QtQ).

On the other hand, during this period, Samsung's smartphone production decreased by 10.6% (QtQ) to 52.4 million units, placing it second globally.

"While Apple increased production due to the launch of new models, Samsung's production decreased due to increasingly intense competition in emerging markets," said TrendForce.

Below Samsung is Xiaomi, including Redmi and Poco, whose production increased by 4.7% (QtQ) to 44.5 million units.

Oppo, including OnePlus and Realme, saw a 1.1% decrease (QtQ) in production, reaching 36.8 million units; while Vivo, including iQoo, saw a 5.9% increase (QtQ) to 28.6 million units.

Transsion occupied sixth place with a production of 27 million units, up 5.9% (QtQ). This figure includes the production of TECNO, Infinix, and Itel.

TrendForce predicts that smartphone production in 2025 will slow down. This is influenced by the prediction of a weak global economic recovery and increased import tariffs that could suppress consumer purchasing power.
