According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2023 there were 4.85 million food and beverage businesses in Indonesia.

24.75% of these were restaurants; 14.56% were mobile/non-fixed location food and beverage businesses; 3.48% were catering services; and the remaining 57.21% were other food and beverage businesses (such as food stalls, cafes, drink shops, traditional medicine stalls, etc.).

BPS also recorded that the majority, or 96.96%, of food and beverage businesses in Indonesia only sell Indonesian cuisine. 1.09% serve foreign menus, and 1.95% sell both.

"In an era of intense business competition, food and beverage businesses are forced to innovate to stay afloat," wrote BPS in its report titled *Food and Beverage Statistics 2023*.

The majority, or 39.14%, of food and beverage businesses recorded in 2023 had been operating for 1-5 years.

Then, 18.64% had been operating for 11-20 years, 17.49% for 6-10 years, and 13.06% for only one year. There were also 11.67% that had been operating for more than 20 years.
