Online media in Indonesia rarely produce news articles related to environmental issues. This is evident from the report "Power Mapping: Dynamics of Indonesia's Climate Agenda," a research collaboration between Koaksi Indonesia, Humanis, and Katadata Green.
The report presents the results of media monitoring of 11 national online news sites: Antara, Bisnis.com, Detik.com, Katadata, Kompas.id, Kompas TV, Kontan, Liputan6.com, Metro TV News, Mongabay Indonesia, and Okezone.
During the period of August 2022-August 2023, these sites cumulatively produced an average of 31,400 news articles per month.
However, news containing the keyword "green economy" averaged only 52 articles per month, equivalent to 0.18% of their total monthly output. The keyword "climate crisis" appeared in an average of only 36 articles per month (0.12%), and the keyword "climate justice" in only 2 articles per month (0.01%).
"This illustrates how environmental issues, represented by these three keywords, have not yet captured the interest of the Indonesian public," as quoted from the report "Power Mapping: Dynamics of Indonesia's Climate Agenda."
