According to OpenSignal data, South Korea had the fastest 5G internet download speeds in the Pacific region in mid-2024.
Based on data collected from April 1 to June 30, 2024, the average download speed in the K-Pop nation reached 427.5 megabits per second (Mbps).
"South Korea is a leader in 5G network development, being the first country to launch a public 5G network in 2019," OpenSignal wrote in its report on Wednesday (September 25, 2024).
Malaysia followed with a 5G download speed of 295.5 Mbps, and New Zealand with 293.8 Mbps.
Indonesia ranked 13th in the Asia Pacific region with a 5G download speed of only 54.6 Mbps.
"Indonesia lags behind other Asia Pacific markets primarily due to a lack of cellular spectrum, as the 3.5GHz band is still used by satellite services," OpenSignal wrote.
With that download speed, OpenSignal stated that Indonesia's 5G network is only 2.3 times faster than its 4G network on average.
