580 members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024-2029 period were inaugurated on Tuesday (1/10/2024). The inauguration was conducted through an inaugural plenary session led by the temporary Speaker of the House, representing the youngest and oldest members.
Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) responded to this period change through a survey that began in early September 2024. In this survey, Litbang Kompas investigated respondents' perceptions regarding fundamental issues that need improvement from DPR members.
The results showed that 51% of respondents stated that the fundamental issue needing improvement from DPR members in the next five years is listening to public aspirations.
"Listening to public aspirations is key for elected DPR members for the next five years to continue gaining public trust," wrote Litbang Kompas in its report on Tuesday (1/10/2024).
Furthermore, 26.6% of respondents hoped that these representatives would improve their integrity, such as avoiding corruption and not violating the law.
Another area needing improvement, as stated by 11.1% of respondents, is working faster to complete urgent legislation.
This hope is not without reason; based on the achievements of the DPR for the 2019-2024 period, the completion rate of Bills included in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) was quite low. Out of 198 Bills registered in Prolegnas, only 26, or 13%, were successfully completed.
Meanwhile, 1.7% of respondents answered "other," and 9.6% answered "don't know."
This Litbang Kompas survey involved 1,200 respondents across 38 Indonesian provinces, selected randomly and proportionally.
Data collection was conducted from September 4-10, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 2.83%, with a 95% confidence level under simple random sampling conditions.
