10 Best-Selling Affordable Smartphones Globally, Many from Chinese Brands

Research firm Counterpoint released a list of the best-selling budget smartphones globally in Q2 2024, priced under US$150 (approximately Rp2.3 million, assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,519 per US$).

Seven out of ten smartphones on this list are Chinese brands.

The Xiaomi Redmi 13C 4G topped the list as the best-selling budget smartphone, capturing a 4.1% market share of total global sales in Q2 2024.

It was followed by two Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy A05 and A15 4G, which achieved market shares of 4% and 3.3%, respectively.

Below them were the Xiaomi Redmi 13C 5G and Xiaomi Redmi A3, both achieving a 4% market share.

The Redmi 13C 5G, launched in December 2023, is the first 5G smartphone on this list.

"Besides 5G, the Redmi 13C 5G also offers competitive specifications, such as a powerful camera, a larger battery size, and fast charging support," wrote Counterpoint in its report on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

The following positions were filled by Samsung, Tecno, and Oppo brands, with market shares as shown in the graph.

Counterpoint also noted that global sales of budget smartphones grew by 10% year-on-year (YoY). Sales volume exceeded 100 million units, mostly in developing markets.

"Affordable smartphones account for 37% of global smartphone sales, with high-end features increasingly being integrated into them," wrote Counterpoint.
