Forbes recently released its list of the 50 richest people in Indonesia in 2022 on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. According to Forbes, the 50 wealthiest individuals in the archipelago have a net worth ranging from US$885 million to US$47.7 billion.
Research firm Altrata classifies these individuals as ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals, defined as those with a net worth exceeding US$30 million or more than Rp450 billion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,000/US$).
In its *World Ultra Wealth Report 2022*, Altrata estimates that there are approximately 3.6 million UHNW individuals worldwide. This represents only about 0.04% of the global population, which reached 8 billion in November 2022.
Altrata also found that most ultra-high-net-worth individuals have a penchant for philanthropy, namely charitable activities or providing assistance to society.
Interestingly, this philanthropic hobby is more prevalent among female ultra-high-net-worth individuals, as shown in the graph.
"This reflects that super-rich women generally have a greater interest in social issues such as welfare, inequality, child protection, and the environment," stated Altrata in its report.
"This also indicates a strong correlation between inherited wealth and higher levels of philanthropy, which is more common among women than men," it continued.
Meanwhile, the primary hobby among male ultra-high-net-worth individuals is sports, with philanthropy ranking second. Hobbies in the technology sector are also more prominent among wealthy men.
